Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Installation Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of AVL systems in various environments, including churches, schools, and commercial spaces. This role requires extensive travel and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality services. Overtime is often required and is compensated accordingly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain audio, video, lighting, and LED wall systems according to client specifications.
Specific tasks include:- Audio: Rack building, wire termination, hanging/rigging flown speakers, mounting ceiling speakers, soldering, and stage equipment setup.
- Video: Installing LED walls, projectors, screens, routers, switchers, camera systems, and building out control rooms.
- Lighting: Hanging, cabling, and addressing lighting fixtures, building racks, and installing control stations.
- Rigging: Securing clamps, attaching safety cables, and performing rigging tasks across various materials and methods.
- Technical Proficiency: Perform cable pulls, terminations, system equipment installation, rack fabrication, and wiring. Use hand and power tools for soldering, crimping connectors, and other construction tasks.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and system schematics, and provide feedback for efficiency improvements during fabrication and installation.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues with AV equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Client Interaction: Serve as the on-site customer liaison, communicating daily job status to the Project Manager and addressing on-site change requests with the Project Manager.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Test point-to-point cabling and system functionality, and conduct tests on audio, video, and signal systems.
- Field Equipment & Inventory Management: Track, manage, and secure all associated equipment and tools on job sites.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to industry installation safety codes, standards, and site-specific safety regulations, including the use of PPE (where required).
Work Environment:
- Diverse Settings: Work in new construction sites, existing structures, warehouses, and client environments, with exposure to varying temperatures, dust, noise, and other construction-related conditions.
- Physical Demands: Significant walking, standing, climbing, and lifting of equipment up to 60 pounds. Tasks also involve confined spaces, heights and the occasional use of specialized testing equipment.
Travel Requirements:
- Extensive travel is required for projects that typically last up to one week at a time. Local work within [45 miles of HQ] and travel to job sites across the U.S. (United States) are expected.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive company vehicles. Experience with trailers and commercial vehicles is a plus.
Education & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; formal education in Audio Visual, Electronics, or a related field preferred.
- AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, or other relevant AV certifications strongly preferred.
- OSHA 30 Certification preferred or willingness to obtain before fieldwork.
- Valid driver’s license and adherence to company insurance requirements.
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum of 2-4 years of audiovisual production or installation experience, preferably in commercial or worship environments.
- Extensive knowledge of audio, video, lighting, and networking systems, including complex wiring configurations and signal flow.
- Proficiency in using specific test equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while ensuring deadlines are met.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to coordinate with other trades on-site.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience with overtime pay at time and a half for hours worked over 40 per week.
- Travel time is paid at the full hourly rate, and technicians receive a per diem while traveling.
